NEW ARMY OF WOMEN STUDY

We have a new Army of Women Call to Action.  Everyone, pay attention..... YOU... in the corner.  Don't you DARE click away from this page until you check it out......

Before I received MY call to action, I saw an email from my mom.  In the subject line:  AM I A FIT??????

I'm the self anointed and now family appointed Medical Go To Person.  I scrolled through the study and then read the bottom carefully.  It does appear my mom is a fit.  I sent her back a quick email dispensing of my high and mighty opinion.

Here's the take away for the rest of us.  IF we **appear** to fit the criteria for a particular study but we may not be sure, we should be clicking that Sign Me Up button.  Definitely.  Click to sign up for the study.  Let Army of Women gather additional information after you sign up.  Let the researcher contact you directly for clarification if there are questions.  It's always best to take a chance if you feel you are in a gray area.  And that, dear friends, is my second and final high and mighty opinion for today.

Oh yes.... and be careful, too.  You know... that whole Ides of March thing.....  reminds me... let me go see what was conjured up by Google for their classic page.  Don't you go checking out Google until you see if you fit this study.  Yo.... you in the corner..... stay put.  Finish reading first and then you may be excused.

Dear AnneMarie,

It is widely known that a breast cancer diagnosis can have far reaching effects both socially and emotionally. Less well understood are the ways in which a breast cancer diagnosis impacts the well-being and quality of life of certain subgroups of women.

Specifically, the research team would like to assess the health and well-being of women who have recurrent disease, metastatic disease, have been recently diagnosed, have an additional invasive cancer diagnosis, OR who are currently undergoing cancer treatment. Identifying the unique needs by asking some questions in a phone survey will help researchers be able to develop appropriate programs for these women.

If this study isn't a right fit for you, but you know someone who might be interested in participating, please pass it on. Forwarding our information to friends and family is just as important as participating in a study.

What's the study about?

The information gained from this research about the well-being and quality of life of women with breast cancer will be used to develop programs and services.

What's involved?

If you choose to join this study, you will be asked to take part in a phone survey that will last approximately 45 minutes. Questions about your health, medical history, demographics, and sexual orientation will be asked. Six hundred women are needed for this study.

Who is conducting the study?

Ulrike Boehmer, PhD, at the Boston University School of Public Health in collaboration with Brown University

Where?

Anywhere in the United States

Who can participate?

You can sign up for the Variations in the Health Needs of Breast Cancer Survivors Study if you fall into at least one of these groups:

You have been diagnosed with breast cancer within the past year;

OR

You are currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer;

OR

You have had a recurrence of breast cancer;

OR

You have metastatic breast cancer;

OR

You have had a breast cancer diagnosis AND a diagnosis of another invasive cancer (it is OK if you are currently undergoing treatment for either cancer).

After you RSVP, the researcher will ask you additional questions to be sure that this study is a right fit for you.
